Demonstrate leadership and teamwork to improve outcomes in a selected health care setting by identifying the role of the nurse as manager of care. NUR 305 Transition to Professional Nursing
Describe the philosophy and organizational framework of the Nursing Department. Discuss significant historical developments which have influenced professional nursing practice. Define the philosophy, role and functions of the nurse as a provider of care, a manager of care, and a professional. Assess own individual strengths and learning needs as a practitioner. Examine theories of nursing which direct and influence the role and function of the professional nurse. Utilize current informatics, technology, computer competency, and writing concepts in the practice of nursing. Utilize the nursing process and ANA's Standards of Clinical Practice in the care of patients. Examine issues relative to health care and their impact on professional nursing practice. NUR 315 Professional Issues
Explore the interrelationship between education, practice, research, and health policy to the role of the professional nurse. Describe current workplace issues that impact the nursing profession. NUR 405 Nursing Research
Understand the need to base nursing practice on theory and creditable research findings and describes the interrelationships among theory, practice, and research. Understand and applies the ethical principles of scholarly writing using APA 7th ed. Guidelines. Explain the role of evidence in determining best clinical practice(s). Evaluate the credibility of sources of information, including but not limited to databases and internet resources. Analyze types of research methodologies and their applicability to nursing practice. Critique research reports / articles to determine quality, integrity, and usability in nursing practice. Advocate for the protection of human subjects in the conduction of research. Participate in the process of retrieval, appraisal, synthesis, and dissemination of evidence in collaboration with other members of the healthcare team to improve patient outcomes. Synthesize the value of research to the profession of nursing.
NUR 413 Community Health
Discuss the historical origin of community health nursing. Analyze nursing roles and interventions as applied to community based practices such as, but not limited to, local health departments, home health agencies, school health clinics, and faith communities. Identify social, political, and legal issues that impact the delivery of healthcare and allocation of resources for specific community groups. Explain the relationship between culture and health behaviors for individuals, families, groups, and communities. Integrate the ethical concepts into the provision and management of nursing care for specific populations, i.e.: “the greatest good for the greatest number.” Discuss program planning and teaching strategies for illness prevention and health promotion for populations within the community. Discuss program planning and teaching strategies to improve the health status and eliminate health disparities of vulnerable populations. Discuss evaluation techniques [short-term and long-term] to determine effectiveness of program/teaching strategies.
